Sam Carmalt
Sam’s work bridges natural resources and economics. Originally trained as a geologist, he has worked on both hydrology projects and petroleum exploration.
While in the oil business he was assigned to develop economic models of overall exploration investments. This led to a variety of internal company studies projecting evolution of the entire industry. He pursued these interests into consulting.
Forming his own company, Sam continued with his economic interests with respect to energy while also directing the company’s involvment in a number of computer database projects. His clients range from banks to international organizations to various NGOs.
Some recent assignments:
• Provide organizational support for the Shelter Centre, a first-response humanitarian NGO
• Work with the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) on Environmental Management Systems
• Investigation of ground-water contamination resulting from hydrologic fracturing of tight gas shales
Sam earned degrees in geology from Yale and then Harvard, the latter with an emphasis on aqueous geochemistry.
